Office of Grant Development

The mission of the Office of Grant Development at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center is to provide pre-award grant development, writing, and submission support for cancer-focused researchers.  Our Strategic goals are to:

  1. Increase the Cancer Center’s value to its members
  2. foster transdisciplinary research growth
  3. increase the Cancer Center’s contribution to institutional programs
  4. impact diversity, equity, and inclusion

Identifying Opportunities and Facilitating Collaborative Interactions

  • Facilitating the Translational Cancer Research Forum to highlight translational resources at UC Davis
  • Organizing Translational Research Matchmaking Initiatives to foster collaborative connections
  • Coordinating disease site specific Innovation Groups to encourage peer discussions and collaborations
  • Conducting investigator outreach
  • Managing Cancer Center Pilot Project Programs
  • Broadcasting funding opportunities and navigating federal, state, and private agencies cancer-related funding mechanisms
  • Interpreting program announcements

Developing and Refining Grant Proposals

  • Providing strategic feedback on study design, methods, and resource use
  • Preparing, editing, and reviewing individual, collaborative, and multi-PI grant proposals and budgets
  • Drafting ancillary documents (LOS, Biosketches, compliance statements)
  • Reviewing summary statements and providing guidance for grant resubmissions

Submitting Grant Applications

  • Navigating the online grant submission process
  • Coordinating submission with Sponsored Programs
  • Serving as point-of-contact from development to submission ensuring smooth application process

To ensure adequate time for review, please submit draft materials by:

  • At least four weeks prior to the submission deadline for grant editing
  • At least six weeks before the deadline for grant development and review
  • At least eight weeks before the deadline for a comprehensive grant application including grant and budget development and submission to sponsored research
  • At least twelve weeks before the deadline for a multicomponent grant application such as programmatic grants (P series) or consortium grants (U series)

To engage OGD:

  • Projects are accepted on a first come, first served basis
    • NCI team science grants and/or ESI grants are prioritized
  • OGD support concludes once grant is awarded
  • Post-award management is supported by PI’s home department
    • Except for large P series (P20/P50) or U series (U54, UG1, UM1) which could be managed by the Cancer Center Finance Business Office
